SPRING CLEANING:
You should always start with a good cleanup of the yard (raking, picking up small rocks, branches and other debris). This can be done either before or after the first fertilizer application.
WATERING RECOMMENDATIONS:
We advise watering your lawn in the morning, giving it one inch of water (about 50 minutes), every five days. In case of drought, the lawn will need one inch of water twice a week. To make sure you apply the right amount of water across the whole lawn, we suggest you use a container, to measure the amount of water your lawn receives. It is important not to overwater, as this can contribute to the development of lawn diseases.
MOWING RECOMMENDATIONS:
Keep the mowing height to a minimum of two and a half inches throughout the year. Never remove more than a third of the grass blade at a time. Keep your mower blade properly sharpened. Never mow the lawn when wet.
DAMAGE AND REPAIR:
Once the soil has absorbed all the water from snowmelt, you can repair the damage winter has caused your lawn.
FIELD-MOUSE DAMAGE:
Small paths of dead grass can be caused by field mice. We suggest you rake and seed these areas.
CHECK FOR WHITE GRUBS:
In early May, the temperature is ideal for white grubs to return to the surface. If you suspect grub damage (brown patches and lawn that can be pulled up easily), call us immediately.
SEEDING OR OVERSEEDING:
Early May is one of the best times to germinate new grass seeds. For best results, we suggest using a high-quality seed, such as Herbionik.
MUSHROOMS:
In the spring, mushrooms grow in humid areas. We recommend you remove them by hand and throw them in the trash as soon as they appear, before you mow the lawn.
