Green Experts, a specialist in white grub elimination, offers two ways to eliminate these bugs, depending on your municipal regulations. We also offer many prevention methods.
DESCRIPTION
White grubs are the most harmful insects to grass. They can destroy a lawn in just a few weeks. White grubs are the larvae of certain beetle species, such as June beetles or chafers. They are often curved in a C shape, as seen in the photo, and can vary in length from 0.5 cm to 5 cm. They are easily identified by their brown heads and three pairs of legs.
LIFE CYCLE
The life cycle of white grubs can last from one to three years depending on the type of beetle. In spring, you’ll see the adults. In summer, around June, they turn into beetles and emerge from the grass to mate and lay their eggs; the beetles then die. In fall, the new white grubs emerge. It is at that point that they cause the greatest damage. Since our winters are so cold, white grubs burrow deep into the soil to avoid the frost.
DAMAGE
It is when they are found in the roots that grubs do the most damage. They eat the roots, so the grass becomes weak, turns yellow and the lawn can easily be pulled up by hand. Secondary damage can also be caused by skunks, raccoons, crows or other birds digging in the lawn for grubs to eat.
HOW DO I REPAIR THE DAMAGE?
To repair grub damage, you must rake damaged areas to remove dead grass, spread seed evenly over these areas and add some compost to cover the seed. Keep the seeds moist until they sprout. For faster results, you can put down sod on these areas. Prepare the areas as if for planting and keep the sod moist until the grass is well rooted. Then, call the Green Experts to eradicate the grubs.
